Artemide, and the engineer Ernesto Gismondi.

The famous brand founded by Sergio Mazza and Ernesto Gismondi, one an architect and the other an engineer, has produced iconic lamps, renowned throughout the world and always current.
The initial production completely designed by Mazza was joined by other famous designers, such as Vico Magistretti, Gae Aulenti, Ettore Sottsass, to name a few. Gismondi himself joined these, with his passion for the project. In the 80s he was the creator, together with Sottsass, of the Memphis group, a movement which, despite its short duration, was revolutionary: the pieces produced in that period are much sought after by collectors and have influenced many subsequent productions, broadening the perspective which had been reduced to a closed minimalism .
Among Gismondi's most successful projects for Artemide is perhaps the synthesis series: the structure of the lampshade characterized it with an apparently simple line, but very avant-garde, almost industrial, for the period (mid-70s). So much so that it is found in scenes from Cameron's 1986 sequel to Aliens: Endgame. Design in cinema has always had an important role for sets: some films have made objects famous. When I look for information and curiosities about design in cinema I look at Design Movie, (link below) this is the scene I was talking about, but there are other films with Artemide lamps, such as Magistretti's Half Chimera in World on a Wire.
Gismondi then continued to both design and direct the Artemide Group, leading it to become an international point of reference in designer lighting. Furthermore, he has had assignments from the Polytechnic of Milan, to the ADI and to the CNEL upon designation by the President of the Republic.
